Maurice and Katia Krafft dedicated their lives to exploring the world’s volcanoes. Their legacy consists of groundbreaking shots of eruptions and their effects, composed into this visually stunning collage. There is something so hypnotic to me when it comes to Werner Herzog and his works, something almost animalistic and yet so refined, poetic in all his films and documentaries. Werner’s films (or books) make me stop everything I’m doing to listen to him, to watch him, to learn from him. I had no other experience tonight with this film: a film so human, delicate and poetic, yet devastating, in which people and nature move in parallel with each of its steps and stories. Beautiful, moving, compassionate yet artistic, never pathetic: everything you could expect from this great filmmaker and creator. Highly recommended.
