Plot
While searching the deep recesses of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in space. See how the Alien movies are ranked by IMDb user ratings. Director Fede Alvarez hired the special effects team from Alien 2 (1986) to work on the creatures. Wherever possible, physical sets, practical creatures and miniatures were used to help ground the subsequent visual effects. When Rain shuts down the ship’s gravity and shoots all the aliens, all their blood hangs in the air in long, blurry patterns. Zero gravity in real life causes liquids to take the shape of a ball instead of flowing in long, flat sections like in the movies.

Andy: The solution for a claustrophobic astronaut is to give him more space. The fanfare of 20th Century Studios freezes and turns ominous, as in Alien 3 (1992), leading to the film’s opening scene. The opening scene was perfect
So something that pays homage to the originals really piqued my interest Visually, it’s classic Alien, albeit with a modern twist. It looks great, even spectacular, especially the space scenes. The main problem with the movie is that there is no tension, no sense of fear and it is not scary, except for the last few scenes which I liked. The film tries to force tension and intensity through another plot device imposed on the alien – the equivalent of a bomb countdown. This doesn’t work because it overshadows the alien threat, they become inconvenient obstacles. Facehuggers have been reduced to annoying pests – something that can simply be shooed away.
I didn’t feel they were being chased
The aliens are cannon fodder and the cast just seems to run into them. For example, the scene with the sentry rifle from Alien that this movie references. But you don’t see the aliens dying in Alien, you see it here, which makes them weak. On the other hand, this scene also reminded me of the Star Wars «boring conversation anyway» prison corridor. Many scenes play out like QuickTime events in a video game, with characters over-explaining and then narrating their actions: «I’ll press X to do this.» As if the audience needs to be told what they are watching and why they should feel scared or tense because there is no tension in the scene, despite the alien presence. I’m concerned about adding more laws to the series etc.
That’s what a monster is
I don’t need to know how the alien works, it’s not a big deal if you know everything about the monster. They use this newly discovered law to get past the aliens, again it was like a scene from a video game. It really captures the alien aesthetic, it’s a fast paced film with video game level script and characters.
