Plot
On an island of haves and have-nots, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure connected to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, and their «OBX» co-stars quiz each other for the best lines from their popular Netflix series. The film was shot on location in Charleston, South Carolina; it was originally slated to shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The actors are way too old for the roles they’re playing
This series is incredibly unrealistic, but to be honest, I don’t care. It’s obvious that it’s not supposed to be the most serious show ever, so I’m totally fine with it being completely over the top. The leads are a joy to watch and do a decent job of their acting (nothing extraordinary, of course).
But whatever, that’s nothing new
Until Sarah said she was only 16, I wasn’t really sure how old they were supposed to be. Casting age-appropriate actors is super hard, so I really can’t take any points off for that. I’m not quite done yet, but so far it’s fun, fast-paced, and entertaining.
Edit: After finishing the show, I CAN’T WAIT for season 2
It got SO much better with each episode and honestly, by the end, this felt like a really high-quality production and it’s a really good foundation for a potential season 2. What impressed me most was how well the dialogue was written, it was really believable. If you can ignore the fact that they don’t look 16 at all, they definitely act like a bunch of dumb 16-year-olds.
